Example of a typical research collaboration

Our engagement with our research collaborators is tailored to meet each organisation’s unique needs.

Most collaborations with organisations in this project have five distinct parts:

1. Needs analysis

Understand the strengths and the challenges in each organisation. These include:

  • Analysis of key documents, particularly policies

  • In-depth interviews with key stakeholders (e.g. executives, supervisors, employees)

  • Optional: help with strategic planning and awareness-raising.

2. Initial survey of workers

Provide baseline data about job characteristics, retention, performance and well-being of workers within the organisation.

3. Interventions/initiatives

Guide the organisation in implementing new initiatives – or adapting existing initiatives – to improve the retention, performance and wellbeing of mature workers. This includes recommending age-inclusive organisational policies and procedures stemming from the latest research.

4. Follow up survey

Track the effectiveness of organisation-led interventions through follow up employee surveys.

5. Feedback

Provide regular, individualised feedback to participating organisations.


Our research team can facilitate workshops on the insights for each business unit from the collected data, to help identify how to support the overall organisational aims and initiatives.

Survey Feedback Platform

Participating organisations benefit from the CEPAR survey feedback platform.

The M-WOS survey responses are mapped against the Include, Individualise and Integrate model. They are then further clustered by Organisational Actions (or example, perceptions of HR practices, diversity climate, leadership quality), employees’ experienced reality (for example, work design, bias, knowledge-sharing) and individual responses (for example, core task performance, career withdrawal behaviours).

Organisations can log in and view their data and filter it by their own demographics.

Benchmark outcomes from our survey – such as turnover, work ability, and psychological wellbeing – are highlighted.

Policy Review Feedback

Using the CEPAR Include, Individualise, Integrate model, one of our first steps is to understand the existing activities relevant to mature workers. In a workshop with subject matter experts within an organisation – HR managers and advisors, OSH, diversity and inclusion – we ask them to identify existing activities that relate to the model. During the workshop the activities are input into a spreadsheet and evaluated in terms of maturity, particularly in relation to day-to-day activities. The resulting heatmap shows the areas where the organisation is performing well and those which, at first evaluation, may need improvement.
