Nine dimensions of the Later Life Workplace Index (LLWI)

The Later Life Workplace Index (LLWI) has been developed in Germany as a free tool for describing successful working conditions for older employees and to compare organisations regarding their practices for an ageing workforce. It can be used by organisations for self-assessment.

The nine dimensions of the Later Life Workplace Index (LLWI) cover organisational aspects regarding the employment of age diverse and older workforces. It explicitly takes into account both soft factors such as organisational climate and leadership, as well as hard factors such as work design and the transition to retirement. Not all factors are relevant for older employees only. Many serve the successful employment of an age diverse workforce.

The nine dimensions are:

  1. Organisational Climate
  2. Leadership
  3. Work Design
  4. Health Management
  5. Individual Development
  6. Knowledge Management
  7. Transition to Retirement
  8. Continued Employment
  9. Health and Retirement Coverage
